Founded in 2005, TAGME was established to create a national standard for the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies required of GME administrators. The first certification assessment was proctored by Ruth Nawotniak at the American College of Surgeons Annual Clinical Congress Meeting, where three applicants earned certification. Among them was Gretchen Lynch, our current TAGME President.
Since then, TAGME has grown from offering specialty-specific assessments to becoming the certifying body for GME administrators across all disciplines. Our certification has become a benchmark for excellence, supporting residency and fellowship programs nationwide. Through our initial certification and maintenance of certification programs, we continue to uphold our commitment to fostering a highly skilled network of GME professionals.
